HOW I TURNED MY PAIN INTO A SWEET DELICACY FOR THE WORLD TO SAVOUR
I saw peace like a simple hearth,
that burns the joy & happiness away,
I returned to my grandmother’s kitchen
to find simplicity, a haven of day.
For it is in the kitchen that the ancient woman finds
her world, away from the chaos outside,
her simple tasks, a kind of peace
from which her joy will not hide.
In my grandma’s kitchen;
I turned my pain into a cauldron,
where suffering brewed a meal for many,
with every tear, I forged a spoon
& every drop of blood, a plate.
I poured my sorrows into the pot,
& watched them seethe,
releasing a cloud of steam & smoke
that rose to fill the air, beneath.
I set the table, one by one,
& watched as they all came to eat,
“It’s so good!” & “More, please” they said,
as my body ached, right to the core
The pain in my back was like fire,
but their satisfaction soothed it like a kiss.
