The essays must be about the topic chosen for this edition, which is none other than intra-African immigration.
An exposition on the theme was further provided by the organizers, that:
The vast majority of African mobility occurs between the borders of the African continent itself. Although many people associate the term migration with citizens of the neighboring continent and with an irregular, dramatic arrival in Europe, in precarious boats or jumping the fences of Ceuta or Melilla, African citizens usually prefer to move within their own countries, normally in migration processes. circulate in the heat of job and economic opportunities. The most common thing is that these opportunities direct them from the interior to the coast or from the countryside to the large cities of their countries. When they decide to leave their homeland, it is common for them to choose to go to countries in the African neighborhood that offer them more possibilities for progress, where they can work or achieve better living conditions. It is a reality that is also evident in conflicts and natural disasters, when the majority of displaced people choose to settle in another safer area of their country or head towards a neighboring country, also African. The Casa África Essay Prize wishes to expand knowledge about this reality and seeks, in its new edition, to deepen the analysis of intra-African mobilities, the patterns they follow, their characteristics, their histories and their possible futures, in addition to adding to the investigation of these phenomena which imply factors such as human security (or its absence) or climate change.Casa África seeks, once again, rigorous works, this time on intra-African migrations, that are well-founded, that go beyond the cliché and that explore diverse realities from a critical and original point of view. For all these reasons, the “Casa África Essay” Prize wanted to focus this year on this topic and invites academics and experts to present their proposals .
