The winners of the Waterford Poetry Prize 2023 will be announced at the SpeakEasy event in Waterford city at the Waterford Writers Weekend on Friday 27th October 2023.
First prize is €400 plus attendance at a designated writing course at the Molly Keane Writers Retreat, Ardmore in 2024 (This prize valued €250 is non-transferable and no cash alternative will be awarded in lieu).
Second prize €300 plus attendance at a designated writing course at the Molly Keane Writers Retreat, Ardmore in 2024 (This prize valued €250 is non-transferable and no cash alternative will be awarded in lieu).
Third prize €200.

Eligibility Requirements
The Waterford Poetry Prize is open to all writers currently living on the island of Ireland.
The selection process will be from original entries which have been previously unpublished or printed (including online).
Entries which have received awards in other competitions or which have been submitted elsewhere are ineligible.
It is highly advisable that entries are not currently submitted elsewhere for consideration. The judge for the Waterford Poetry Prize 2023 is the writer and poet Colm Keegan.
- Poetry entries only are accepted.
- All entries must be typed and in the English language. A line limit of 40 lines applies.
- Please do not include images with your submission.
- Online submission only via Waterford Submit platform. Please click on the blue ‘APPLY’ button. You will be asked to register as a new user. If you have entered the competition last year your login and password should still work.
- All entries should be typed, saved in PDF or Word document format and uploaded onto Waterford Submit platform.
- There is no entry fee.
- There is no age limit but if you are under 18 you must confirm you have parental/guardian's consent to participate.
- Previous recipients of 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize are ineligible to enter.
- The author’s details are to be given on the official online entry form. None of these details are to appear on the work being submitted.
- No more than one entry can submitted by any individual. Persons using pseudonyms to enter with different email addresses will have all their entries deemed ineligible.
- The closing date for receipt of entries is Monday 21st August 2023 at 12 noon. Late submissions will not be accepted by the online system.
- The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding their decision.
COPYRIGHT
While copyright will remain with the competitor, the Arts Office, Waterford City & County Council reserves the right to arrange the first publication and broadcast of selected works. The right to use the poems to further publicise this award is also retained.
