How many qualify for individual all-around?

For the artistic individual all-around, each of the 98 qualified gymnasts are eligible for the individual all-around competition. However, many gymnasts do not compete in each of the apparatus events.

This is because in the individual all-around, gymnasts perform on their own against each other. Each athlete's individual score is added up and the three highest scores receive gold, silver and bronze medals.

The scores from each exercise are added together, and the gymnast with the highest total is crowned the individual all-around champion.
