What we're looking for
- stories about identity, people, places that stay with you long after you've left
- stories about travel a medium for the discovery of the self and others
- stories about transformation on the road
- stories highlighting local communities and economies
- travel themed short stories
- travel themed personal essays
- photo journals
- stories about the big outdoors
- stories about food
- stories about sustainable travel
... In short, we are looking for stories that will take our readers on a journey.
We are aware of the struggles of #travellingwhileblack and though we certainly will highlight these across our various issues, it is important to note that these will not be the leading voice of our publication.
Our aim in amplifying the Black narrative in travel is to normalise the presence of Black people across the travel industry, without centring the subject only around our hardships and struggles due to our race.
So remember not to shoehorn yourself when pitching stories. We want to publish Black travel stories across the board.
What we're NOT looking for
- "Top 10 things to do in X destination"
- “I went to X destination and did/saw XYZ” style pitches with no further insights into personal or environmental impact
- ... and any other generic travel content that can be easily googled and is readily available in travel media as a norm
