Guidelines For Typehouse Magazine Submissions

They accept simultaneous submissions. They should be notified if your work has been accepted somewhere else.

Previously published work will not be considered, and this includes work published on social media and personal websites. If it is available publicly online, that means it is published.

For the prose and poetry category; interested writers and poets are to submit to one category at a time. No submission for each at a time.

Submission for artwork is excluded.  (artwork may be submitted simultaneously with a written submission)

Once you have received a response to a submission, you are to wait two months before sending any new work. If your work was accepted, wait until the next submission period to submit again.

Entry Fee:  Submitting is free, but consider the feedback option – you’ll receive personalized feedback on your submission!

Don't forget to share!

They are closed to regular fiction and poetry submissions during the months of January, May, and September. However, nonfiction and visual arts submissions will remain open.

Feedback submissions both give you a great writeup of your pieces and help the magazine continue to be able to pay contributors.

Tip submissions also help them pay contributors and keep the magazine running

What Typehouse Literary Magazine Do Not Want

COVID-19 fiction or poetic works are not accepted for submission. They will however consider nonfiction pieces on a limited basis, but they must be intersectional to be considered.

There is no minimum number of words, although we most frequently publish fiction and non-fiction between 500-5,000 words.

They accept up to three prose submissions per author as long as the total number of words is less than 7,500.

All genres and subjects are welcomed and encouraged. Save submissions as either .docx or .doc format, and include your contact information and the work’s title and word count in the document.

Poetry Category For Typehouse Literary Magazine Submissions:

Up to six poems are accepted per submission, and all forms and subjects are encouraged.

Save submissions as either .docx or .doc format, and be sure to include your contact information and the title(s) in the document.

They would like to see artwork and photography in all media and of subjects.

Up to six visual arts submissions are accepted at once, and can either be thumbnails or full size images. You can also include a document (in .docx or .doc format) with a write-up of your work.

Mode Of Publishing:

Typehouse Magazine issues are published in both PDF and print form.

Typehouse Literary Magazine Pay Rate To Writers

However, they are slowly working our way up to paying professional rates, with contributors paid $10 for issue 15, $15 for Issues 16-19, and $18 for issues 20-21. For issue 22, they paid $21 a submitter. Hence, there's a chance the pay rate will go higher.

Payment is within 30 days of publication, and they take first publication rights exclusively for six months, with non-exclusive archival rights thereafter.

All other rights revert to the author upon publication, although if the piece is reprinted, please be sure to acknowledge
