Mixed Reviews Of Billy Summers By Stephen King
Stephen King's Billy Summers is a gothic novel with the title named after the main character. The book was published by Scribner and released on August 3, 2021.
Billy Summers is a contract killer, and the best in the business. While in the business, he tagged along with a moral code to target only the bad guys.
Billy was described as being "among the best snipers in the world, a decorated Iraq war vet, a Houdini when it comes to vanishing after the job is done."
He decided to take his last hit, which eventually, went wrong. Following this, he was on the run after those who hired him wanted him dead.
Stephen King has always been known for his supernatural horror storyline twist, that which only few writers could do. He is known for most of his best books which has been adapted into movies, such as "IT", "The Shining" and many more.
However, it appears Billy Summers by Stephen King took another turn. The book was described as "no horror", something most of his readers look forward to.
Following the release of Stephen King's Billy Summers on August 3, 2021, the book has gained mixed reactions from a lot of readers, most especially from Amazon.
Despite that, Billy Summers has been able to surpass other authors on Amazon upon the book release.

10 Top Mixed Review Of Stephen King's Billy Summers
The first two reviews are from the United States.
While one claims it gives an in-depth of the main character and has a good ending, another thinks the book sucks and is full of repetition.
Review from C
"...Overall I enjoyed this book even more than “Later”, King's other crime novel released this year. I thought the pacing was a little slow in the first part of this book, but it did give some depth to the main character; and reading Billy's struggles and development as a writer was entertaining. I enjoyed the ending of the book so much, that I feel like it more than makes up for a slow start to the book. Overall another good book from King, and I think that fans of his that recognize some of the references might enjoy it even more."
Review From Dianna Henry
This book sucks
"I have always been a big Stephen King fan, I have all his works and love them. But....this is a big disappointment. The repetition and explaining of things, as though his "dear reader" is an idiot is sad. Never mind his political views seeping in and being a hindrance to the story. I expected so much more than this out of a good writer."
Review By Dora Bonna
"As a lifelong Stephen King devotee, it’s difficult not to have the preconceived notion that everything he writes is going to be astounding. But this was. I think it’s one of his best works. I know that those who aren’t as staunchly in awe of this work, think of his name as a horror writer. That may be true to a point, but isn’t there a lot of horror in the world right now? This book does not go down the supernatural path, as do many of his earliest works, but in true King fashion, there is a nod to one of his most lauded books, involving a haunted hotel. The characters in this book are superbly crafted and you have strong feelings about every single one of them, even the bad guys, of which there are plenty. The story is almost in three separate parts, but woven together to create an intricate tale of love, war, justice and vengeance...It makes you think about what’s important in life with another profound King-ism ”God doesn’t have a plan - he throws pick-up sticks” As always with a much anticipated King book, once I opened Billy Summers, it never got closed till the last page."
It actually got weird when the word "Trump" keeps on pooping out from the readers' reviews. Most of the them regard it as a critic to Donald Trump, the president of US, and his past administration.
The book, Billy Summers, was utterly seen as "eye candy" and uninterestingly, too focused on the president, that which seems unlikely of the legendary horror author.
Review By Tom Anderson
"I grew absolutely tired with King’s more recent novels obsessing over Donald Trump. I figured it would be a thing of the past considering he’s no longer President but boy was I wrong. Within the first 50 pages I believe there were about five or six Trump references.
Enough is enough. Tired of the non stop political commentary. Closed the book and requested a refund.
It’s a shame because he used to be a fantastic author. 11/22/63 was his last decent book. Everything after has been mediocre at best or painful like this outing at worst."
Mike Carracia has similar thing to say about Billy Summers.
"...you hate Donald Trump , but we are buying your books for a good story not to find out how you feel about Trump. I mean I do not like Trump and still do not want to read this crap every 20 pages."
Interestingly, it appears M. Smith, an Amazon reviewer, boarded two boats to sail on the same sea. He mentions Stephen King as a great writer, but "The book was better than average - but that is too low of a bar for King"
Review By M. Smith
A disappointed fan
"Reading the reviews I get it , I think King is a great writer. But this is the first book of his that I thought missed badly.
Perhaps I have read a lot in the hired assassin genre , and those parts are interesting. The book was better than average - but that is too low of a bar for King.
The last 20 pages I could not wait to be over - too cute by 2x..."
Adel P. draws the mixed and negative reactions back to positivity. To him, Billy Summers is unlike Stephen King but it was a great read.
"This novel is a whole new direction for Mr. King, and I was delighted by it. There's no supernatural horror here, although there's a tip of the hat to The Shining, but the reader knows that Billy has seen real horrors in Fallujah.
This novel was thoughtfully crafted, beautifully written and is among Stephen King's best."
Also, Andi L. describes the book in a spectacular way, one which every reader craves. That is, "a feeling of being part of the story"
Review By Andi L.
"I don't read the "regular" Stephen King books that he is better known for; instead, my favorites are "11/22/63" and, now, "Billy Summers". One of the critics said that this was a book within a book, but it is definitely MUCH MORE than that. To follow Billy in his life as a paid killer is only one part of this marvelous book. When Billy writes his life story, you feel his pain---real or emotional, and you want to be the one who writes the ending, but you can't: it's Billy's story. There are so many stories wound around and through this book, you can't believe that one person wrote it. Stephen King, you are a master! VERY well done, indeed!"
Wrong? Confused? or pretending to be? In the following review, Aarin, throws a rhetorical question in the air, hoping someone with the answer will fly into the air and grab it.
We can't really say he is confused. He can't be, right? Indeed.
Review By Aarin Anne Mulhern
"Where did King go? The book started good but ended somewhere in the dump. Not good at all"
The last review and probably the best pick by the editor, the shared review was something one can resonate with. It speaks the language of fairness, beautiful memories with blurry images, and craftiness.
Review By John Yarrow
From a one of many Constant Readers: Well done and thank you
"I am 53 yrs old. I have been a "constant reader" of Mr King since I first picked out a well-worn hardback of _Dead Zone_ from Walmer Public Library, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, aged 14. I hunted down what the author had written before, and read everything he has written thereafter. Whenever I start reading the opening lines of a new piece of his work, it's like communing with an old friend, always a little older and certainly wiser, a man attuned to his people the times they live in. _Billy Summers_ got to me the most in a long while; it's a step up, even for a writer of Mr King's levels of acuity and craft. I loved Alice's ending on the thumb drive, but it just wasn't right. And man, life would be more tolerable if it were"
