And if there be need for churches or mosques They'll outlive their builders. Libraries, museums and theatres will be our roadjectives
Kazim Shalom is already known for his profond writing dexterity which is evident in his previous published works such as Hadiza, a short fictional story that takes the readers on a ride to explore the indigenous culture and communities within Nigeria, creating a serene worth the hype.
Also, in "I Will Go To A New Bornu", his taste for african wasn't left out as he focuses on Bornu, one of the states in the northern part of Nigeria. He reflects on the insecurity, discrimination and poor amenities in the state and wishes to go to " a new Bornu, in distant time from now".
He reiterates further on having a new world and ends, inviting all " wouldn't you like to come to my new venue, when the time comes?"
I Will Go to A New Bornu
I will go to a new Bornu
In no distant time from now
When nothing else matters, except that I am living
I will go to a new Bornu
Where the rifles of former terrorists
And former statesmen
Would go off together in celebration of a federation
I will go to a new Bornu
Where concentration camps would become museums
I will go to a new Bornu
Where Chibok will be the centre of civilized humanism.
In my new Bornu, there'll be no gates to keep strangers off
There'll be concrete poles that run with electricity
And bored holes that will never taste rusty or bloody again.
In my new Bornu, there'll be no Christian or Muslim
And if there be need for churches or mosques
They'll outlive their builders.
Libraries, museums and theatres will be our roadjectives
And should you get lost one morning
Your host would be a professor
He'll say "Welcome to the Home of Peace".
When the new Bornu comes—not far from now!—
A concensus for a new FCT would be signed
And a middle-aged woman from Imo
Would head our big campus.
Wouldn't you like to come to my new Bornu
When the time comes?
