In Despair, Salami Alimot writes with a sad tone as the first two lines of each stanza depict the poet's sadness. The touches on every facet of reality in our societies, especially the happenings in the black continent where corruption, hunger, poor education and many others reside as she describes the land as "annihilation that scorches one's hope" and " swallowed dreams". She lays more emphasis on land to have the readers thoughts centred on the main theme of the poem, while they scrub the dust from its surface to have the indepth of the poem and the society.  She ends the poem with" weary eyes" as her " heart is left in despair"

In Despair, Salami Alimot does not only write but also preaches.

DESPAIR

I sow seeds of hope:

In the land of annihilation

That devours dreams,

Like a whale 

Swallows vulnerable fishes.

I sow seeds of hope:

In the land of annihilation

That scorches one's hope,

Like a brutal fire

Scorches dreams to death.

I sow seeds of hope:

In the land of annihilation

Where many strives

While others drink from their sweats.

I sow seeds of hope:

In the land of annihilation

With my heart daunted

For my dreams,

Not to be eradicated

By callous hands.

Now,

The stupendous whale 

Has swallowed my dreams.

The brutal fire has scorched my hopes

Hot tears engulf my weary eyes,

My heart is left in despair.

Salami Alimot Temitope is ardent and avid writer. She's a student of the Lagos State University, Nigeria.

She's from Oyo State, Nigeria and currently lives in Lagos, Nigeria.

She writes with simple and factual themes, she serves as an advocate for women. 

She's an aspiring novelist and playwright, she serves as a voice to the voiceless.
