"In Contemporary Gods, with exquisite words tilted with simile, he juxtaposes between the remote days when there was no technology "Like my ancestors carved what they bow to...I screen-guarded and pouched mine from harm" with the present technological advanced moment. He satirically emphasizes on the addiction and total reliance on technological devices,"Empty, inept, so am i without it." especially phones and their effects in the daily lives of the Z genreation. The poet catches the mind of the readers with what we see but take less cognizance of."
Contemporary Gods
I preferred those Lengthy Love Letters
And those meetings at nightfall,
Until you invented a device you claimed "better"
Assuring to be at my beck and call.
But then,
Like my ancestors carved what they bow to
So I bought what i kowtow
As they sheltered it with charms,
I screen-guarded and pouched mine from harm.
As they seek protection from it before they sleep,
And thanked it, the next day upon opening their lips.
Mine was the last thing i sight before the day's slumber
And fondle it upon waking,as though it had protected it from danger
Like a mother who lost her son
Like a plant who had no access to sun
Empty, inept, so am i without it.
Be it to achieve a tiny task or a fantabulous feat
